Richard O. Shields, Jr., M.D., FACEP
Medical Director


In 1984, Dr. Shields moved to Savannah to join Emergency Medical Group at Memorial Medical Center. While at MMC he served as Medical Director of the Emergency Department and Chairman of the Department of Emergency Medicine, and served on many hospital committees including Medical Executive, Occurrence Screening, Utilization Review,
Critical Care, and Trauma.

 At the end of 1997, Dr. Shields left MMC to help establish SouthCoast UrgentCare.  In early 1999 he was recruited to join the expanding group of physicians at GEA.  He currently staffs four of the GEA hospital ED's and currently serves as Medical Director of the Candler ED.   He also is the web master for GEA Online.  Dr. Shields was Board Certified by the American Board of Emergency Medicine (ABEM) in 1984, and re-certified in 1994.  He also serves as an Oral Board Examiner for ABEM.   He is a member and Fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians.  He has held numerous offices with the Georgia College of Emergency Physicians including a two-year term as President.  He currently serves on the GCEP Board of Directors.

Dave has over 30 years as a Medic, Instructor and an EMS Administrator. As one of the founders of  the MedStar / LIFESTAR programs at a level one trauma center, Dave spent 16 years managing and growing the agency to become one of the largest ground and helicopter EMS services in Georgia. Prior to that he served 7 years as a medic and supervisor for Chatham County EMS. he has recently served as a part-time MEDDAC Paramedic with Ft. Stewart / Hunter A.A.F EMS

Dave's certifications include: Flight Paramedic; Tactical Medic Instructor, Dave was the first "Tactical Medic" for the Savannah Police Dept. and went on to serve as staff member for the CONTOMS (Counter Narcotics Tactical Operations Medical Support) program at FLETC (Federal Law Enforcement Training Center) in Brunswick, Ga; EMT-Intermediate Instructor; Nationally Registered Paramedic and holds a Paramedic license in the states of Georgia and Florida.  He is also a licensed US Coast Guard Captain (Charter Boat).

Dave is also an EMS consultant and has published several EMS articles. Dave is a board member of several companies and is a past (two term) chairman of the Chatham County Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC).  Dave is also a member of the Chatham County Citizen Corp Council and the Coordinator of the Chatham County Medical Reserve Corps.

Carol Crockett, NREMT-P
Director of Education and Development

As Director of Education, Carol is RTI's Lead Paramedic Instructor with nearly 20 years of paramedic experience - Her instructor qualifications include: ACLS, AMLS, BTLS, CPR Instructor Trainer, PALS and many other EMS related programs. In addition to heading up all EMS courses at Rescue Training she is a paramedic with MedstarOne based at the Level One Trauma Center in Savannah.

Carol is also the V.A. (Veterans Administration) lieason for student affairs and the RTI Clinical Coordinator. Carol is a member of the State of Georgia BTLS (Basic Trauma Life Support) Committee. She is a very active National Registry Exam Coordinator, conducting approximately ten National Registry exams each year. She is an associate member of the LEPC (Local Emergency Planning Committee). Carol is certified in Confined Space Rescue and is requested to be the lead instructor for all US Army Ranger EMT and refresher courses,
